What happens when an innovative shoe company comes to you with an environmentally conscious, imaginative project and not a lot of time to do it? Keen brought concept drawings to us in need of engineering and quick turn manufacturing to help bring their vision of a new style retail store to life. Open to accepting a challenge, we put our team of highly skilled engineers and craftsmen to work to turn the designs into reality. We collaborated with their team on two cash wraps and an overhead grid. Impressed by our drive and customer service, we were given the chance to design two additional pieces. Our creative team produced concepts for the children’s shoe display made from recycled monkey bars and the bag holder made from repurposed scaffolding that helped complete the amazing retail environment. Recycling and repurposing was a key principal in Keen’s remodel of the downtown Portland building. Whereas a normal project of this magnitude would result in at least ten dumpsters of trash, Keen was able to reuse, donate and repurpose all but one dumpster of garbage. Our team supported their recycling goal by sourcing many reclaimed materials: including monkey bars, scaffolding, Douglas fir beams and Portland street signs while Keen supplied imperfect shoe soles. A project is only finished when it has been installed safely and expertly to finalize the design vision, and our sister company Hammerhead Solutions worked many long days to ensure the project was completed on time.
